Stanley Supreme Summer Barbecuing

Skewers on Stanley SupremeWith the barbecue season in full swing, indigenous range cooker manufacturer, Waterford Stanley have come up with helpful tips and advice for summer diners wishing to have fun in the sun and avoid potential tummy tantrums.

Barbecues are a great way to enjoy food during the summer months. However, at the launch of the new all-electric Stanley Supreme this month, the company encouraged consumers to be extra vigilant with their food in warmer weather and  suggested that summer revellers at least par-cook barbecue foods, particularly meats, indoors before transferring them onto barbecue flames.

The new all electric Stanley Supreme, launched following the success of the duel fuel model last year, offers true cooking flexibility for every kitchen and every taste, with the sleek, clean lines of the ceramic hob perfectly complementing the cooker’s all-electric features.

“With Summertime now well and truly upon us, food poisoning is always a risk,” according to Waterford Stanley’s Brand Manager, Olivia O Mahony”

Stanley Supreme“Barbecues are fantastic, social occasions. As soon as the weather improves here in Ireland, we all tend to rush into our gardens and cook outdoors. But warm weather and undercooked food are a dangerous combination. Barbecue weather typically sees an increase in the number of food poisoning cases. We strongly urge that people would par-cook their barbecue foods under their grill while their barbecue is firing up outside.

“Once food is cooked three quarters way through, it can be transferred out of doors. Foods prepared in this way are far safer and still retain that authentic, barbecue taste,” Olivia added.

To reduce your risk of food poisoning this summer:

  • Thoroughly cook food to reach at least 70°C.
  • Always cook chicken, pork, sausages and minced products, such as burgers until the juices run clear - there should be no pink meat. Beef steaks, as distinct from mince meat, can be cooked to preference.
  • Never allow cooked food to have contact with raw food. Use a clean plate for cooked meat, poultry or fish. Never use the same plate or chopping board that held raw meat or poultry for salads, bread or cooked meats.
  • Perishable products like milk and salads should only be taken out of the fridge/cool box when the meal is ready to serve.
  • Raw meat and poultry should always be kept cool until needed.
  • Refrigerate all food once you have finished eating the main meal.
  • Remember to clean your barbecue well
